The process of refining cast iron and oxide materials in a cupola with the replacement of coke by anthracite or lean coal is examined. The main parameters of the process are theoretically and empirically substantiated and it is determined that it can be executed by charging the cupola up to the level (2.5–2.8)(D c)1/2 and feeding the blast into the oxygen zone after the blast air it has been preheated to 450–500°C. Equal amounts of the blast are fed into the zone at two levels separated by a distance equal to 17.5–20% of the diameter of the cupola.
