Determination of the energy parameters for the smelting of ferrosilicon with an increased electrode gap. Limitation on the electrode–electrode current

  • Published:
Metallurgist Aims and scope

An increase in the power of ferroalloy furnaces is accompanied by an increase in current in the electrodes and a smaller increase in voltage. These changes are in turn accompanied by a deterioration in the power factor and electrical efficiency, the reason being a decrease in the resistance of the furnace bath. Studies show that it is possible to increase the power of the furnace when bath resistance and voltage are increased by increasing the electrode spacing and gap and limiting short-circuiting through the charge between the electrodes. These changes also bring an improvement in the energy parameters of the smelting operation.
