This article examines questions related to the development of a technology for producing large ingots of good quality. It identifies problems encountered in obtaining quality metal in large ingots and forgings within the context of advanced metallurgical methods and equipment now being used to treat steel outside the furnace. An evaluation is made of technological measures developed to improve the mechanical characteristics and special properties of products obtained from large forgings.
