Development and introduction of a new technology for briquetting finely divided materials with sodium silicate

Metallurgist Aims and scope

Abstract

The ease with which briquets can be made using sodium silicate is determined mainly by the conditions under which moisture is removed from the mixture that is prepared for briquetting. The best approach is to mix sodium silicate with fines of the raw material which have a moisture content in the range 2.0–2.5%. Realizing this range is quite feasible at many existing mining-concentration plants, since the drying of finely dispersed materials (concentrates) is a common operation at these facilities.
