Abstract

The behavior of stepped annular plates made of a fiber reinforced composite material is studied making use of the method of mode form motions. The plates having stable cracks of prescribed deepness at the re-entrant corners of steps are subjected to an initial impact and the subsequent motion is due to inertia. The designs of stepped plates are established which minimize maximal residual deflections under given material consumption. Numerical results are presented for the plate with single step.
