At the request of the authors, Prasad, A.S., Dolia, S.N., Pareek, S.P., Samariya, A., Sharma, P.K., Dhawan, M.S.: Sol–gel synthesized high anisotropy magnetic nanoparticles of NiCrxFe2−xO4. Journal of Sol–Gel Science and Technology 66, 372–377 (2013). doi: 10.1007/s10971-013-3019-4 has been retracted because of scientific errors.

The authors have serious concerns regarding the Mössbauer spectra presented in Figure 3, which appear to be the result of mixing of data files or samples. The spectra for x = 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 are identical, as are the spectra for the two remaining samples: x = 0.8 and 1.0. In addition, the TEM images and the frequency versus grain size dependence histogram (bar graph) shown in Figure 2 were wrongly labelled.
