Novelty in the interpretation of gamma rates recorded by a pulse neutron-gamma probe for gas reservoir determination

Abstract

In this paper, we used the variation ratio parameter (E) of the capture gamma count ratio from near and far detectors to identify gas reservoir. Monte Carlo method was used to simulate the logging response law of the variation ratio (E) with gas saturation. The results show that the variation ratio (E) can reflect the formation gas saturation. As the porosity increases, it is more conducive to evaluate gas saturation. The borehole fluid has little effect on E, and the variation ratio (E) is mainly affected by borehole size, lithology, shale content and drilling fluid invasion.
