Abstract

The effect of humic acids (HA) on 137Cs and 90Sr uptake by natural and modified aluminosilicates was studied under the conditions of radioactively contaminated soils rehabilitation. Increase of HA concentration resulted in a decrease of distribution coefficients of cesium and strontium because of formation of humate complex compounds. Precipitation of HA onto the surface of the aluminosilicates occurred at HA concentration > 0.2 and 2 g/L resulting in suppression of radionuclides sorption. In case of glauconite, formation of non-absorbable colloids of strontium because of high peptization of glauconite. The NPF-CL and NPF-GL ferrocyanide sorbents provided distribution coefficients of 137Cs and 90Sr of at least 5 × 102–103 and 5 × 102 mL/g even in 1.5–2 g/L HA solutions, and thus they can be used for rehabilitation of radioactively contaminated soils including those rich in organic matter.
