Abstract

The paper deals with the preparation of linalool nanocapsules by emulsion polymerization using n-butylcyanoacrylate (BCA) as encapsulant. The nanocapsule emulsions were characterized and their stability and rheological properties were investigated. The physicochemical properties of nanocapsule emulsions (average diameter, polydispersity and rheological property) were evaluated as a function of time to assess system stability. Besides, rheological curve of polymeric nanocapsule emulsions tested under the steady state model were fitted well according to Carreau model with 4 parameters, and the data after the fitting was analyzed. The result showed that the system (containing 0.8 % (w/w) of linalool, 1.6 % (w/w) of EL-40 and 0.4 % (w/w) of BCA) that a polydispersity index (PDI) kept near 0.1, which was monodisperse and had a narrow peak, was an ideal state and relatively stable; and the mechanical stability of a nanocapsule emulsion systems could be estimated by rheological test to some extent.
