Abstract

Well-defined POSS/PS copolymers based on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using POSS-Br as the initiator and CuBr/PMDETA as catalyst system. A POSS with two terminal hydroxyl groups (POSS-OH) was synthesized via the reaction of POSS-Cl with diethanolamine in N, N-dimethylformamide. Then the POSS-Br was achieved by the reaction of POSS-OH with 2-bromoisobutyrylbromide in dry THF. The structures of POSS and POSS/PS composite were characterized by FTIR、NMR and GPC, which all agreed well with the theoretical values. Additionally,we investigated the POSS/PS composites thermal properties by TGA technology.
