It is a great pleasure to dedicate this issue of the Journal of Statistical Physics to Herbert Spohn. Herbert has been my friend and scientific collaborator for many years. I have been delighted to watch him become not only a leading scientist but also a greatly appreciated teacher and advisor to many members of the statistical mechanics/mathematical physics community. We are all beneficiaries of his many contributions.

I am sure that I speak not only for the many contributors to this issue but also for our whole community in wishing Herbert a continued upward path of achievement in science. We also wish Herbert and Sian a long, healthy and happy life together. You are both a very precious part of our community held in great affection by all who know you.

With great affection,

Joel
