We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Magdalena Bendova has been appointed as Joint Editor in Chief of the Journal of Solution Chemistry.

Dr. Bendova, who has acted as Associate Editor for the Journal since 2014, is an acknowledged expert in the properties of ionic liquids. She studied physical chemistry at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, where she obtained both her MSc. degree in 2000 and her PhD. degrees in 2003. She then joined the Eduard Hála Laboratory of Thermodynamics of the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Even though the Hála Laboratory doesn’t exist anymore, Dr. Bendova has continued her research work in thermodynamics and physical chemistry. Originally interested in phase equilibria of multicomponent liquid mixtures of both molecular solvents and ionic liquids, her focus gradually shifted to thermophysical properties of ionic liquids in terms of their use in sustainable development, mainly in thermal storage. Recently, she grew interested in biobased ionic liquids that could be used as green solvents in biomass treatment and in their aqueous solutions, such research having not only an application relevance, but also a fundamental interest as to the structure-property relationships of the studied systems.

Throughout her career, Dr. Bendova has not only been a passionate researcher, she also set out to share her passion by popularising science and by supervising and mentoring students and young researchers to pass on her conviction that thermodynamics and solution chemistry are far from being obsolete. In 2014 she was awarded with the IUPAC Franzosini award that recognised her contribution to the work of the IUPAC Subcommittee on Solubility and Equilibrium Data of which she has been a member for more than 14 years now. She is also a member of the Working Party on Fluid Separations of the EFCE and has been a member of numerous organizing and scientific committees of conferences and congresses.
