Properties and structure of solutions in a homological series of n-alcohols

Abstract

Spectral (E T), volumetric, heat capacity, and enthalpy characteristics of solutions of some compounds in solvents of the homological series of n-alcohols are considered. Properties of solutions of compounds in hypothetical solvents such as pseudo-water, pseudo-methanol, and pseudo-ethanol are obtained. Their distinction from the properties of solutions of the same compounds in real liquids is discussed. In particular, the opinion is expressed that hydrophobic effects are likely to intensify in pseudo-water as compared to real water.
