The spirit of democracy cannot be imposed from without. It has to come from within.

Mohandas K. Gandhi.

Abstract

Given the frequent tendencies of our institutional structures to undergo splitting, how does analytical psychology give us some pointers in knowing how to diffuse the “complex-discharging-fields” generated by such, often unconscious, conflicts? How does a Jungian understanding help with suffering the shadow in one’s self, become more conscious, explore the places of self-doubt and self-loathing which trigger or are triggered by the shadow projections of others? Can we learn to dis-identify from the “identities” projected onto us by others while, at the same time, withdrawing our projections onto them? Can we honor the democracy of the psyche?
