Abstract

A new metal–organic architectures, [Cu3(NA)6(DMF)3]n (1), where NA stands for nicotinic acid, has been successfully synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that the CuII centers adopt a distorted square pyramidal geometry, and nicotinic acid acts as a bidentate ligand connected with the adjacent two Cu atoms by the pyridyl and carboxylate groups to form a 3D framework structure. The framework exhibits open chiral channels with coordinated DMF molecules inside it. In addition, the magnetic properties have also been studied.
