Tail of the Organic Ligand Templated Metal-Organic Framework

Abstract

A new compound, namely [Zn2(L1)2(H2O)]n (1, H2L1 = 5–(benzyloxy)isophthalic acid), was hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectra and powder X-ray diffraction. Single crystal x-ray diffraction reveals that 1 features a three-dimensional framework with the tails (phenyl groups) of the organic ligands (L1) effectively filling in the hexagonal channels and playing a template role. Compound 1 exhibits an intense violet photoluminescence in the solid state at room temperature.
