More Reflections on 40 Years

In March we published eight commentaries marking the 40th consecutive year of publishing by the Journal of Chemical Ecology. Here, in the April issue, we present an additional 8. Some of the themes are recurrent, and new ones have emerged. Again, the perspectives from pioneers, current leaders, and emerging scientists are enlightening and make for provocative reading. Without exception, both enthusiasm for our discipline, and the need to keep in mind historical developments, paradigm shifts, and societal goals continue to shine through in these stimulating essays. We have commitments for another group in at least one more ensuing issue. Hopefully, our readers and particularly our younger scientists find them useful as chemical ecology moves inexorably mainstream and we approach 50!
