Abstract

A series of lanthanides adipates [Ln 2(ad)3(H2O)4] [Ln = Y3+ (1), Ho3+ (2), Er3+ (3), Tm3+ (4); ad = adipate] have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, UV/Vis and IR spectroscopy. Compounds 14 are isostructural and exhibit 2-D polymeric layers constructed by Ln 3+ ions bridged via the carboxylate groups of adipate ligands in two binding modes. The magnetic properties of both 2 and 4 are investigated and their thermal behaviours are also discussed.

Graphical Abstract

The Ln 3+ ions (Ln = Y3+, Ho3+, Er3+, Tm3+) bridged by the carboxylate groups of adipate ligands form 2-D polymeric layers.
