Abstract
Self-assembly of the bowl-shaped cavitand C-iso-butyl-calix[4]methyl-resorcinarene (1) with the bifunctional amino acid 1-propyl-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid (2) in methanol afforded a host‒guest 2:2 complex 3, whose structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 3 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21, with a = 12.319(5) Å, b = 37.968(15) Å, c = 12.900(5) Å, α = 90°, β = 112.946(5)°, γ = 90°, and Z = 2. Amino acid molecules sit inside the resorcinarene cavitands via intermolecular O‒H⋯O hydrogen bonding in complex 3.
