Abstract

Two new isomeric dioxovanadium(V) complexes, [VO2L1]2 (1) and [VO2L2]2 (2), bearing the tridentate Schiff base ligands 2-[(2-ethylaminoethylimino)methyl]-6-methoxyphenolate (L1) and 2-[(2-ethylaminoethylimino)methyl]-5-methoxyphenolate (L2), have been synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The X-ray single-crystal structural analysis indicates that the structure of 1 crystallizes to a monoclinic system, with a space group P21/c, a = 6.915(2) Å, b = 9.666(3) Å, c = 20.156(3) Å, β = 97.540(3)°, and Z = 2. The structure of 2 crystallizes to a triclinic system, with a space group P−1, a = 6.747(5) Å, b = 11.320(8) Å, c = 17.790(13) Å, α = 98.060(6)°, β = 99.244(7)°, γ = 92.730(7)°, and Z = 2. Each V atom in the centrosymmetric complexes is six-coordinate through three bonds to oxo groups and through bonds to the tridentate Schiff base ligand, forming an octahedral coordination.
