Structural and magnetic properties of Li and Na added Bi1.8Sr2.1 (Li,Na)xCa1.1Cu2.2Oy (Bi-2212) ceramics (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2)

Abstract

The effect of Li and Na addition on superconducting properties of Bi-2212 ceramics has been investigated by the general chemical composition of Bi1.8Sr2(Li,Na)xCa1.1Cu2.1Oy superconductor with x = 0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2. XRD observations reveal that there are some impurity phases such as Bi2CaO4, Bi2O3 and Bi1.09Ca0.91O2.55 as well as Bi-2212 main phase according to different Li-Na contents. The magnetization measurements taken at both 10 and 25 K for all samples reveal the characteristic diamagnetic response of Bi-2212 phase. In addition, Jc values of samples are calculated from the M–H loops according to Bean model. Jc observations show that the current carrying capacity of Bi-2212 phase at high magnetic fields can be increased by optimal contents of Li and Na addition.
