This special issue publishes selected papers from the Solar Asia-2015, international conference held in Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune 411007, India. This conference series was initiated in 2011, to stimulate solar energy research and accelerate solar energy applications in the Continent. The first conference was held in Institute of Fundamental Studies, Kandy in Sri Lanka (2011), and the second was held in University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2013). Attendance in the conference series gradually increased, and the third in the series was attended by over 400 participants.

Although the conference was open for all aspects of solar energy, most of the topics were from photovoltaic solar energy conversion. Subjects covered were solar energy materials, novel solar energy conversion devices and their applications in both theoretical and experimental research.

The guest editors have selected papers based on quality of scientific research. All papers have been submitted as regular papers to the journal and have gone through the journal’s rigorous review process. The coordinating guest editor would like to thank the scientists who initiated the conference series and all guest editors who contributed towards successful completion of this special issue.
