Abstract

Pure BiFeO3 (BFO) microcrystals and BiFeO3@carbon-microspheres (BFO@CMS) heterostructures were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal process. The crystalline structure, morphology and photocatalytic property of pure BFO and BFO@CMS heterostructures were investigated. The results and analysis revealed that addition of carbon microspheres significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity of BiFeO3 system under visible-light irradiation. A possible mechanism was proposed to explain the enhancement in the photocatalytic activity of the BFO@CMS heterostructures.
