Abstract

This work investigated the thermal stabilities and antioxidative effects of the inclusion complexion of Kadsura coccinea extract (AE) with cyclodextrin (CD). AE/CD complexes were prepared with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (2-HP-β-CD), respectively. The inclusion complexation was characterized by UV, FT-IR and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The presence of CDs enhanced the thermal stability of AE by thermal gravity analysis (TGA). The antioxidant assays in vitro and the protective effects on kidney damage induced by potassium bromate (KBrO3) showed that the complexation of AE with cyclodextrin could increase its antioxidative effects in an order of AE/2-HP-β-CD complexes > AE/β-CD complexes > free AE.
