The heavy metal content of the soil cover in Bishkek was measured in order to monitor the environmental safety level. Atomic emission spectral analysis was used to study the test samples containing heavy metals. Quantitative analysis of the samples was realized in the plasma flow of a two-jet DGP-50M plasmatron. Sampling was based on zoning of the urban area, taking account of emissions from thermal power units, vehicles, and the private sector. The content of eight elements of the heavy metal group was determined in samples taken at three sites in Bishkek in the summer and winter periods. The of heavy metal contents of the samples did not exceed the established environmental standards for the maximum permissible concentration and the maximum permissible excess parameters.
