The distinguishing feature of our optical open-path analyzer for measuring near-surface ozone concentration is the use of interference filters for isolating individual narrow bands in the UV absorption spectrum of ozone plus a “solar-blind” photoelectron multiplier, with the aim of suppressing transmission in the long-wavelength wings of the interference filters and reducing noise in the detection circuit. The estimated random uncertainty in measuring the ozone concentration is no greater than 4 ppbv.
