We used attenuated total reflectance/Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy (ATR/FTIR) combined with gravimetric analysis to study photoinduced graft polymerization of acrylic acid onto polyethylene films from the monomer + photoinitiator liquid phase. Grafting was carried out at a temperature of 25°C, initiator concentration 5%, and reaction time t r = 5–90 sec. It was established that as the reaction time increases, the grafting process first occurs in the surface region of the film, and then (for t r > 20 sec) propagates into the interior volume of the film and growth of the grafted chains stops in the surface region.
