Abstract

We have examined general rules for the change of frequency of stretching vibrations of UO 2+2 (uranyl) as a function of U-O and uranium-ligand interatomic distances. We analyzed the behavior of these frequencies as a function of donor number (DN) of the organic ligand by studying IR absorption and visible luminescence spectra. A linear correlation was found. We proposed spectroscopic methods for determining the DN of ligands, which are difficult to estimate by other methods, and the composition and structure of uranium complexes.
