Luminescence of gamma-irradiated steatite ceramics

Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract

The nature of the emission centers produced in SK-1 steatite ceramics by gamma (60Co) and reactor (n + γ) irradiations was studied using gamma, roentgeno-, and photoluminescence spectroscopies. The luminescence of SK-1 was shown to be due to the Mn2+ ion, which was identified by electron paramagnetic resonance and neutron activation analysis.
