Cet article a été rédigé à la suite d’une intervention effectuée en février 2005 à l’Ecole pratique des hautes études, dans le séminaire de Lyne Bansat-Boudon, qui dirige mon travail de thèse. Je souhaite la remercier vivement ici, en particulier pour m’avoir invitée à faire cet exposé, et pour m’avoir fait d’utiles remarques à l’issue de celui-ci. J’ajoute que cet article n’aurait jamais vu le jour sans l’aide d’Alexis Sanderson, professeur à All Souls College (Oxford). Entre octobre 2004 et juin 2005, j’ai eu l’occasion de lire à Oxford avec le professeur Sanderson plus de 300 pages de la Vimarśinī - et d’apprécier ainsi son extraordinaire science du sanskrit et du Śivaïsme, ainsi que la générosité avec laquelle il dispense son savoir à qui se montre désireux d’apprendre. Le professeur Sanderson est aussi intervenu à différentes étapes de l’élaboration de cet article, éclaircissant maints passages qui m’étaient restés obscurs dans les textes cités ici.
