Abstract
The present study is aimed at exploring the links between academic self-efficacy, career decision-making self-efficacy, and academic major satisfaction, with career optimism as the mediator. The hypotheses based on this aim were tested on the data collected from a sample consisting of 411 senior engineering undergraduates attending a prestigious public university in Turkey. The results of structural equation modeling analyses indicate that career optimism mediates the relationship between academic self-efficacy and academic major satisfaction. Additionally, career optimism was found to have a mediating effect in the relationship between career decision-making self-efficacy and academic major satisfaction. Implications for theory and practice are presented.

Sentiment d’efficacité personnelle universitaire et sentiment d’efficacité vocationnelle: Effets sur la satisfaction de la filière universitaire via l'optimisme de carrière La présente étude a pour but d'explorer les liens entre le sentiment d’efficacité personnelle universitaire, le sentiment d’efficacité vocationnelle et la satisfaction de la filière universitaire, avec l'optimisme de carrière comme médiateur. Les hypothèses ont été testées sur les données recueillies auprès d'un échantillon composé de 411 étudiant-e-s de premier cycle (Bachelor) en ingénierie fréquentant une prestigieuse université publique en Turquie. Les résultats des analyses de modélisation par équations structurelles indiquent que l'optimisme de carrière jour un rôle médiateur entre le sentiment d’efficacité personnelle universitaire et la satisfaction de la filière universitaire. De plus, l'optimisme de carrière a un effet médiateur dans la relation entre le sentiment d’efficacité vocationnelle et la satisfaction de la filière universitaire. Les implications pour la théorie et la pratique sont présentées.
Zusammenfasung
Akademische Selbstwirksamkeit und Selbstwirksamkeit bezüglich Berufsentscheidung: Auswirkungen auf die Zufriedenheit mit dem Studienfach über Karriereoptimismus Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, die Zusammenhänge zwischen akademischer Selbstwirksamkeit, Selbstwirksamkeit bezüglich Berufsentscheidung und akademischer Zufriedenheit zu untersuchen, wobei Karriereoptimismus als Mediator dient. Die entsprechenden Hypothesen wurden anhand einer Stichprobe von 411 leitenden Ingenieuren im Grundstudium an einer angesehenen öffentlichen Universität in der Türkei getestet. Die Ergebnisse aus Strukturgleichungsmodellanalysen weisen darauf hin, dass Karriereoptimismus den Zusammenhang zwischen akademischer Selbstwirksamkeit und akademischer Zufriedenheit mediiert. Darüber hinaus wurde festgestellt, dass Karriereoptimismus einen mediierenden Effekt auf den Zusammenhang zwischen Selbstwirksamkeit bezüglich Berufsentscheidung und akademischer Zufriedenheit hat. Implikationen für Theorie und Praxis werden vorgestellt.
Resumen
Autoeficacia académica y autoeficacia en la toma de decisiones profesionales: Efectos sobre la satisfacción con la especialidad académica a través del optimismo profesional El presente estudio tiene como objetivo explorar los vínculos entre la autoeficacia académica, la autoeficacia en la toma de decisiones profesionales y la satisfacción con la especialidad académica, con el optimismo profesional como mediador. Las hipótesis basadas en este objetivo se pusieron a prueba con los datos recogidos de una muestra compuesta por 411 estudiantes de último año de ingeniería que asisten a una prestigiosa universidad pública de Turquía. Los resultados de los análisis de modelos de ecuaciones estructurales indican que el optimismo profesional media en la relación entre la autoeficacia académica y la satisfacción con la especialidad académica. Además, se encontró que el optimismo profesional tiene un efecto mediador en la relación entre la autoeficacia en la toma de decisiones profesionales y la satisfacción con la especialidad académica. Se presentan las implicaciones para la teoría y la práctica.
