Call for Volunteers to Translate Journal Abstracts

Are You a Native Speaker of German?

The International Journal of Educational and Vocational Guidance is continually in need of volunteers to translate article abstracts. We are currently especially in need of additional volunteers who can translate English-language abstracts into German. Typically, volunteers translate one 100-word abstract once every month or two, for a total of less than 10 abstracts a year. In exchange for this valuable service to our scientific community, your name will be listed in our masthead and you will receive free access to the journal. We can also provide a testimonial letter about your involvement with the journal if needed. A degree of familiarity with the domain is needed, but translators who are at the stage of being a doctoral candidate are already welcome.

Conference

44th International IAEVG Conference, Riga, Latvia

October 19–22, 2020

“Maximizing Potential of Career Guidance

Due to concerns around Covid 19 related travel bans world wide, the Conference organizers are currently seeking a viable alternative, in communication with the IAEVG board. This means that the conference will not take place on site in Riga on 20–22 October, and possible options include an online event, or an onsite event at a later date. The decision will be made after May 12, 2020. Please view the conference website: https://iaevgconference2020.lv/ for updates.

Call for Papers for a Special Issue Entitled

Life Design Interventions (Counseling, Guidance, Education) for Decent Work and Sustainable Development

Guest edited by

Meenakshi Chhabra, Lesley University, United States.

Marcelo Afonso Ribeiro, University of São Paulo, Brazil.

Jérôme Rossier, University of Lausanne, Switzerland, from the UniTwin international network.

In the last decades, several global phenomena like globalization, the refugee crisis, and now the recent pandemic is bringing rapid changes in the landscape of work organizations. This new context has led to an ongoing increase in the number of non-linear careers, vocational paths as well as transitions in career trajectories. These changes create instability and can lead to an increase in individuals’ sense of security. Vocational training, career counselling, lifelong learning and life design interventions are known to address these concerns of insecurity effectively, in addition to promoting access to decent work and decent life.

In this context, the UniTwin international network “Life Designing Interventions (counseling, guidance, education) for decent work and sustainable development” promotes worldwide cooperation between universities on lifelong guidance and counseling to support decent work and sustainable development for all (www.unil.ch/unitwin). This cooperation also develops and delivers programs to promote social inclusion by providing adapted/reconstructed intervention for disadvantaged, marginalized, underserved and underrepresented groups. This special issue draws on the premise that effective vocational guidance, career counseling, and life design can contribute to promote access to decent work and decent life for all. The Journal issue will be a concrete step in this direction. Scholarly work that illustrate how vocational guidance, career counseling, and life design can contribute to this access are most welcome to be submitted to this special issue. Submissions can include scholarly articles focused on research on a related topic, practice (work with individuals or in communities), or documentation of an action research project. both. We hope to get a wide range of work from different continents, using different methodologies, and based on a diversity of theoretical and practice backgrounds.

This issue will be jointly guest edited by Professor Meenakshi Chhabra, Lesley University, United States (email: mchhabra@lesley.edu), Professor Marcelo Afonso Ribeiro, University of São Paulo, Brazil (email: marcelopsi@usp.br) and Professor Jérôme Rossier, University of Lausanne, Switzerland (email: jerome.rossier@unil.ch).

Authors interested in contributing to this special issue should submit a full manuscript of 4,000–8,000 words (maximum 30 pages) on the submission portal of the journal and be careful to select the appropriate special issue.
