Abstract

In this work, a magnetic and Mössbauer study of LaFeO3 and Ce-doped (x = 0.05) La0.95Ce0.05FeO3 synthesized by sol-gel method with calcination temperatures of 700, 800 and 900 °C is presented. The identified phase by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) for all samples corresponds to an orthorhombic perovskite structure with Pbnm (# 62) space group without the presence of impurity phases. The magnetization measurements reveal a weak ferromagnetic behavior coexisting with a paramagnetic behavior for the samples with calcination temperatures of 700 and 800 °C, while the samples calcined at 900 ºC, show a predominant paramagnetic behavior. The Mössbauer spectra of pure and Ce doped LaFeO3 have been recorded. All doped and un-doped samples exhibit a symmetrical six-line pattern with hyperfine parameters associated with high spin Fe3+ in octahedral coordination.
