Increasing Turbine Efficiency at PJSC Mosénergo Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plants

Power Technology and Engineering Aims and scope

The relevance of modernizing powerful gas turbine units is due to the economic feasibility of increasing the installed electric capacity of combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants with modernized gas turbines and thereby increasing the competitiveness of such CCGT plants in the wholesale electricity market. By increasing the installed capacity of CCGTs using such turbines, it is possible to expand their control range of loads in absolute terms, as well as improving the maneuverability characteristics of the equipment. The article discusses some features of the implementation of gas turbine (GT) modernization projects carried out in PJSC Mosénergo aimed at increasing their capacity under current operating conditions. In addition, the results of regime tests of adiabatic evaporation units carried out during the summer at PGU-420 and PGU-230 are presented. By expanding the load adjustment range, it was possible to implement “flexible” service intervals for SGT5 4000F type GT. The inlet guide valve (IGV) re-opening algorithm allowed the available power of the GT and the unit to be increased by 2.5 – 3.5 MWabove the nominal, as well as improving the turbine power in the modes of normalized primary frequency control when the input guide unit of the GT is not fully open. Changes in the key indicators of the CCGT following the implementation of these measures (GT, ST, and unit capacities, efficiency) are considered.
