Optimization of the Operating Modes of Power Plants in Isolated Electrical Power Systems

  • Published:
Power Technology and Engineering Aims and scope

In this study, we examine the actual optimization problem for the operating modes of power plants considering the criteria for reliability and economic efficiency and using the electrical power system (EPS) of the Kaliningrad oblast’, which functions in isolation from the unified energy system of Russia, as an example. The operating modes of power plants are analyzed from the perspective of their optimality according to the criteria for the reliability and economic efficiency of the EPS. The target optimization function is specified, and the choice of an optimization algorithm for a software tool that helps achieve the specified criteria is described. This study shows the results of the calculations of a specially developed program using the selected method of optimization of the operating modes of power plants for hourly, daily, monthly, and annual scheduling. Considering the results, recommendations on the withdrawal of power equipment for repair, which can be used by generating companies and dispatch centers of isolated EPSs, are given.
