Improvement of Automatic Control Systems GTE-160 to Ensure its Reliable Operation in the Unified Energy System of Russia

  • Published:
Power Technology and Engineering Aims and scope

In order to eliminate shortcomings in the operation of control systems and ensure the reliability of the operation the 160 MWGTE-160 within the Unified Energy System (UES) of Russia and following accidents in the power system of the Kaliningrad region, this article revises the algorithms of the automatic control system (ACS) of gas turbine energy power plants having the capacity of this type of gas turbine unit (GTU). The main algorithms of the GTE-160 ACS identified after accidents are presented with methods of their elimination. This includes (1) optimization of the control of the inlet guide device (IGD) of the compressor with rapid changes in fuel consumption, (2) the development and use of GTU ACS models to clarify the regulation of the power and rotor speed, and (3) switching the modes of their operation. The results of the work performed at the GTU of the power unit at plant No. 1 of the Kaliningrad TPP-2 (thermal power plant) have been implemented at a number of other combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) operating in the UES of Russia using the GTE-160.
