Performance Comparison of Internal and External Penstocks Based on Data of Field Observations

  • Published:
Power Technology and Engineering Aims and scope

The status of component parts of external and internal penstocks is analyzed on the basis of data derived from field observations during the construction and service periods of the Ust’-Ilimsk and Bureya HPP as examples. The stress state of the internal penstock is more favorable as compared with the that of the external penstock; cracks with an opening exceeding the standard permissible value are developing in the reinforced-concrete structures.
