The surface properties of faience—acidity and aluminosilicate modulus—are determined and their variation depending on the chemical composition on changing the content of mullite Al2Si2O5, quartz, and cristobalite (crystalline modification of quartz SiO2) is explained. In accordance with the structure of the surface, the presence of a negative surface charge was determined. It was established that silanol groups on the surface of Si–OH faience, which are weakly acidic, afford a physicochemical interaction with polymer film-forming materials, possessing basic properties. The sorption of urea-formaldehyde oligomers of various compositions on faience and subsequent film formation in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol are considered.
