Investigation of Corrosion and Scaling of Glass Coatings on Pipes Used in the Petrochemical Industry

  • Published:
Glass and Ceramics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

The corrosion of a glass coating of pipelines in acidic, alkaline, and marine environments was studied. In an acidic environment the corrosion of a pipe coating is very small and the corrosion rate is practically non-existent. In an alkaline environment, initially the leach rate is very low and then sharply increases. In the range pH = 6 – 12, pipe coatings do not have high stability and active leaching of pipe coatings occurs. It was shown experimentally that during long-time operation very small scale deposits are observed on the surface of the glass coatings of pipes, but a significant layer of scale forms in pipes that are not glass-lined.
