Thermal Spalling Resistance of Glass Coatings on Pipes

  • Published:
Glass and Ceramics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

The thermal spalling resistance of a glass coating on a pipe in the petrochemical industry was investigated. It was found that the thermal spalling resistance of a glass coating on a pipe degrades sharply with increasing thickness of the coating. This phenomenon is associated with an increase of the temperature gradients on heating or cooling of thick coatings as compared with thin coatings on pipes. It was determined that the high thermal spalling resistance of a glass coating on a pipe depends primarily on the thickness, brand, and geometric dimensions of the coating and the steel pipe.
