Abstract
High plasticity clayey soils are seen as problematic soils due to their low bearing capacity, high plasticity, high swelling and shrinkage properties. Nowadays, extensive research is carried out on natural materials especially low-cost, easy-to-find, and environmentally friendly for the improvement of such soils. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of high plasticity clay soil with eggshell powder added on the strength values at three different temperatures (50, 80 and 110 °C). In this study, 5, 10 and 15% eggshell powder were added to high plasticity clay soil and compacted under standard proctor energy. After these three different ratios were cured for 7, 14 and 28 days, they were heated at 50, 80 and 110 °C, and their unconfined compressive strength values were determined with a uniaxial pressure device. The changes in the structural properties of the mixtures were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis. As a result, the highest strength increase occurred at 110 °C, 28 days of curing, and clayey soil + 15% eggshell mixture. The strength increase rate in this mixture was 19.66%.
