The authors are to be commended for their efforts to present the joint factor of the seismic bearing capacity of shallow foundation with Coulomb failure mechanism using limit equilibrium method due to its simplicity. There are some appealing aspects of the authors’ bearing capacity analysis compared to the conventional approaches. However, the discussers would like to point out some considerations, which are fundamental for calculation of the ultimate bearing capacity of foundations.

The authors have described the failure mechanism by only two triangular active and passive zones without any transitional wedge (Coulomb failure mechanism), which is very unlikely to occur and is well known as a non-accurate failure mechanism in the estimation of the bearing capacity of shallow foundations. Also, an ambiguity in reporting the proper value of the wall friction angle makes the user confused. Figure  1clearly illustrates a comparison of the bearing capacity factor proposed by the authors...
