This special issue on Reproductive Physiology of Fish is a compilation of selected papers presented at the 9th International Symposium on Reproductive Physiology of Fish (9th ISRPF) held in Kochi (Thrissur), India, from August 9–14, 2011. The International Advisory Committee and National Organizing Committee of the symposium endorsed this task, in addition to the already published symposium proceedings (Indian J. Sci. Technol., 9th ISRPF Issue: S8), which included all presentations as extended abstracts. ISRPF meetings are held once in 4 years since the first meeting of Paimpont, France, in 1977. The successive meetings were held in Wageningen (the Netherlands), St. Johns (Canada), Sheffield (UK), Texas (USA), (Bergen (Norway), Mie (Japan), St. Malo (France), and recently in Kochi (India). All meetings were well attended by scientists working in the field of fish reproduction. The special issue was intended to publish mini-reviews on selected topics on fish reproduction. Nevertheless, the compilation includes short original articles also. We hope that this volume will be found useful by fish reproductive physiologists in their research work.

The publication of the special issue in Fish Physiology and Biochemistry was made possible by the special gesture and the grant of the Publisher, Springer, the Netherlands, to publish the articles free of cost. The journal has been encouraging and promoting the publication of special issues on fish research topics of interests, the impact, and visibility of which are seen in the ratings and popularity of the journal. We express our sincere appreciation and thanks to Martine van Bezooijen, Aquatic Sciences Unit, Springer SBM, the Netherlands and Patrick Kestemont, Editor-in-Chief of Fish Physiology and Biochemistry for their active support and cooperation to get this volume published. We are grateful to Deepan Selvaraj of journal Editorial Office for all assistance and support during processing of the manuscripts.
