Combined Fractionation of Protopectin Degradation Products

  • Published:
Fibre Chemistry Aims and scope

Combined fractionation of soluble and insoluble pectinic polysaccharides, i.e., protopectin decomposition products in a column reactor, was studied using beet pulp, pomelo albedo, and sunflower calathides as examples. The ability to isolate separate fractions with different galacturonic acid contents, degrees of esterification, and viscosity parameters was demonstrated. The formation mechanism of protopectin decomposition products was identical regardless of the raw material. The results enable the production of pectinic polysaccharides with given physicochemical parameters to be controlled.
