The Journal of Consumer Policy has thrived, in no small part, because of the willingness of top scholars in the field to volunteer their time and effort to review manuscripts and provide clear feedback to both editors and authors. A few years ago, the editors of the journal resolved to recognize the contributions made by our reviewers by establishing the Outstanding Reviewer Award.

This award recognizes a member of the editorial board who consistently provides high quality reviews of manuscripts and through these reviews, increases the clarity, precision, and contribution of the papers published in the Journal of Consumer Policy. The award recipient receives a small financial reward but the main purpose of the award is to recognize an often overlooked contribution that scholars make to the profession—the time investment into the peer review process. The selection decision as to who should receive the award is made at the annual editors meeting and is based on reviews covering the previous 3 years. All reviewers who have provided four or more reviews over the course of 3 years are eligible to be considered for the award.

As with previous recipients of this award—Pauline Ippolito, Robert Meyer, and Andreas Oehler—this year’s award recipient has been selected unanimously by the editors of the journal. The editors are proud to announce that, in 2013, the award goes to Professor Iain Ramsay from the University of Kent, UK. Professor Ramsay is an eminent consumer law scholar who has helped shape the discipline for over 30 years. He is well-known for his book on Consumer Law and Policy (now in its third edition), as well as for leading contributions to academic journals and edited collections. Prior to joining the University of Kent, Professor Ramsay was a Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Toronto, Canada from 1986–2007. His main areas of expertise are the regulation of consumer markets (nationally, regionally and internationally), as well as credit and insolvency. In keeping with the Journal of Consumer Policy’s approach, Professor Ramsay’s work is interdisciplinary and empirical. Professor Ramsay has a long-standing association with the Journal of Consumer Policy, both as a contributor and member of the editorial board. The nature of his expertise means that the Journal’s Law editors often rely on Iain as a reviewer for new submissions, and his helpful and timely comments are always of great benefit both editors and authors alike.

We thank Iain Ramsey and, of course, the entire editorial board for their service to and engagement with the journal.
