Study on Bioactive Secondary Metabolites from the Mangrove-Derived Fungus Penicillium verruculosum TGM14

  • Published:
Chemistry of Natural Compounds Aims and scope

A new compound, named penicillquei C (1), and eight known compounds (2–9), were isolated from the fermentation broth of mangrove-derived fungus Penicillium verruculosum TGM14. The structure of compound 1 was identified by comprehensive analyses of 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS spectroscopic data, and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Compound 2 was isolated from the genus Penicillium for the first time. Compound 4 exhibited potent antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 4.7 μM, which is stronger than positive control trolox (IC50 = 13.0 μM). Compound 4 also showed wide antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, and Escherichia coli, with the same MIC value of 25.0 μg/mL.
