Structure of Gleditsia triacanthos Galactomannan and Its Use in a Hemodynamic Blood Substitute Composition

  • Published:
Chemistry of Natural Compounds Aims and scope

A water-soluble depolymerized galactomannan (DGM) polysaccharide with MM 18 kDa and Gal–Man monosaccharide ratio 1:2.1 was obtained from Gleditsia triacanthos seeds. The structure of DGM was established using methylation and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy as (1→6)-α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-mannan. Pharmacological studies showed that the galactomannan was a constituent of the polyfunctional hemodynamic blood substitute rheoambrasol with hemodynamic, antiacid, and antioxidant activity for hemorrhagic shock.
