Composition of Triacylglycerides and Monoalkyldiacylglycerides of the Hydrocoral Millepora platyphylla

Lipid analysis opens new possibilities for studying coral biochemistry and ecology. The foundation for such studies is the deciphering of the total lipidome of coral. The composition of major nonpolar lipid classes [triacylglycerides (TG) and monoalkyldiacylglycerides (MADAG)] of the hydrocoral Millepora platyphylla were investigated to develop the lipidomics of marine organisms. The structures and relative contents of 27 molecular types of TG and MADAG were established. The nonpolar lipidomes of hydrocorals, Zoantharia, reef-building, and soft corals were compared.
