Two New Isobenzofuranone Derivatives from Phyllanthus emblica and Their Bioactivity

Two new isobenzofuranone derivatives, 5-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-2H-furo[3,4-h]chromen-7(9H)-one (1) and 2,2-dimethyl-5-(2-oxopropyl)-2H-furo[3,4-h]chromen-7(9H)-one (2), were isolated from the fruit of Phyllanthus emblica. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including extensive 1D and 2D NMR techniques. Compounds 1 and 2 were also tested for their antioxidant activity, and they show good antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 4.5 and 4.2 μg/mL, respectively.
