Plectranthus ‘Mona Lavender’ is a popular garden plant but was only recently bred by Roger Jacques from two species of Plectranthus in Cape Town, South Africa. It is a vigorous, upright, rounded, bushy perennial that typically grows to 75 cm tall. Plectranthus ‘Mona Lavender’ is used for its repellent effect on mosquitoes.
The essential oil composition of Plectranthus ‘Mona Lavender’ has not been previously investigated. Herein we report for the first time the chemical composition of the essential oil from the fresh aerial parts of Plectranthus ‘Mona Lavender’ and evaluate its antioxidant activity by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay.
